The mornings can be the worst time if you have fibromyalgia. Waking up stiff, sore, the shower is usually the first place you go. Letting the warm heat penetrate deep down in to the muscles is very therapeutic, and for most  fibromyalgia suffers this is the only way to get the day started.

Fibromyalgia unfortunately does not have have a one size fits all treatment option. I have personally found that it takes some experimenting to discover what works for me. I use a combination of over the counter medications (some found here), exercise, diet, meditation, using heat therapy, magnetic products, and developing relationships and support with others who understand that I will have good days and bad day, but I still need unwavering support to get through the day, the week, and the years.

Relieve Morning Stiffness – 5 Quick Tips

To relieve morning stiffness, try these 5 quick tips, and you may find a little more spring in your step.

  1. Find the best sleeping position, and use pillows between your knees and behind your back. Don’t sleep on your stomach as it can can cause back strain, shoulder and neck pain.
  2. Do gentle stretches while lying in bed before you get up, once sitting on the side of the bed roll your shoulders, and your neck to ease tension and morning stiffness.
  3. Jump in a hot shower. Turn up the water, set it to as warm a setting that is comfortable, and let the water work out the morning stiffness. If you have a hand held massage shower head, give your tender points, a trigger point massage.
  4. After your hot shower while brushing your teeth, do a few knee bends, neck rolls, shoulder rolls, side bends while holding onto the bathroom counter top for support.
  5. Drink a big glass of water to flush the toxins that have accumulated overnight, and to rehydrate your body.
