You will want to start out with exercises that involve every long muscle in your body from the top of your head to the bottom of your toes. This is not aerobic conditioning, but basic movements that involve stretching, and keeping your joints flexible and lubricated.
It is important to stick with low impact exercises, and not to push yourself to hard. Many times we will have a good day, and clean the house, go grocery shopping, and take a long walk, only to be sidelined the next day, or even the next week. Pacing yourself when you have fibromyalgia is vital to remaining active with decreased levels of pain.
Make a daily plan to do gentle stretching in the morning to warm up your joints and muscle; perhaps a one of the more demanding exercises in the afternoon or evening. Gentle stretching when implemented before bed can help alleviate some back and leg discomfort. However heavier exercising that is performed later into the evening can result in sleep problems, it is best to exercise (walk, bike, swim, yoga) before 6 in the evening if possible.
